PTFE (Polytetrafluorethylene) Coated PTFE Fabric had been used for many years in tensile architecture. Unlike PTFE Glass, it has good flexibility, enabling it for retractable roofs and temporal projects. Due to the molecular structure of the fluoropolymer coating, which is considered as one of the most stable organic compounds, the material is extremely resistant to all environmental impacts.
PTFE coated PTFE fabrics are extremely resistant to all environmental impacts. These materials are highly flexible and are predestined for temporary structures and retractable roofs. They are highly translucent and waterproof and withstand high UV-radiations and heat impact. The expected design life for such realisation can be settled on 25+ years. Thanks to the absence of plasticizers and the excellent anti-adhesive properties of its coating, the fabric will essentially not pollute and the surface won't transmute due to chemical degradation.
Manufacturing and installation
For the manufacturing of PTFE fabrics high skill, experience and proper tools are needed. The fabric will be welded by use of High frequency welding machines. It has to be properly prepared in order to get the required tensile strength of the seams. Due to its flexibility the handling is uncomplicated. Nevertheless, it should be avoided sharp bending’s which could lead to visible stripes in the roof.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Due to the low adhesion of dirt on the material the pollution occurring is mainly removed by rain. The cleaning intervals can be fixed according to different optical requirements and common inspection schedules. The inspections primarily have the purpose of locating damages caused by mechanical impacts which, if already existing, can in most cases be repaired directly on site.
These highly durable fabrics can be used for small and middle sized projects. It is suitable for permanent and temporary installations as well as and retractable architectural applications. It is mostly used for roofs, façades or other tensile structures for sporting arenas, shopping malls, bus stations and airport terminals. The material can be delivered in high translucent versions.
