Statement of the Jury
The idea of using retractable membrane ceiling techniques in combination with machine learning approaches for a thermal optimization of wide span buildings is convincing. Mr. Hu shows a very straight forward approach of using fabrics in combination with high tech IT in order to minimize temperature variances in buildings with a consistently high energy input like swimming pools etc. He goes further than taking the fabrics just to provide shade. The jury particularly appreciates the use of information technology to enhance the efficiency of the retractable fabric roofs. This way two aims are achieved in one go: low-carbon emission and high thermal performance of large-space public buildings.
